My Clinical Outcomes for HCA Healthcare UK

HCA Healthcare UK (HCA UK) is part of the largest private healthcare provider in the world that operates 185 hospitals across 21 states in the USA.

HCA UK has built a world-class network of over 3,000 clinicians at 30 facilities in London, Manchester and Birmingham and is one of the country’s leading private hospital groups.

With a founding philosophy that puts patients first, HCA UK provide compassionate care from clinical research to primary care (including a private GP service), from outpatient to day-case treatment, through to complex and urgent care too.

In September 2023, HCA UK partnered with My Clinical Outcomes (MCO) to manage an advanced new PROMs programme.

“Patient-reported outcomes are integral to the care we offer at HCA Healthcare UK. Health care that works responsively to a patient’s lived experience, that adapts to their needs, is a system that truly has the patient at the centre.”

— Cliff Bucknall, Chief Medical Officer at HCA Healthcare UK

MCO Develops a Bespoke Platform to Integrate with HCA Healthcare UK

With close collaboration between HCA UK and MCO technical teams, MCO has developed a bespoke integrated version of the platform that enables a direct daily data feed from HCA UK to MCO.

This has several key benefits over the traditional stand-alone platform:

  • Improved patient experience: Eligible patients are automatically on-boarded to MCO on the right pathway at the right treatment centre and at the right stage of treatment. They simply receive an email prompt to validate their registration and are immediately sign-posted thrugh to complete their first assessment. The process if much quicker and easier and less reliant on the patient selecting the correct options.

  • Improved patient uptake: MCO proactively emails eligible patients to visit the MCO platform and verify their account and this has resulted very high response rates compared to processes where patients are handed a leaflet or directed to a QR code.

  • Reduced hospital effort: No manual verification of input data is needed and patients no longer need to be personally directed to the website.

  • High data quality and linkage: Sending data to MCO ensures direct matching of data between MCO and HCA UK. This result in high data quality and successful linkage of longitudinal results which is all important for regulatory data submissions such as to the Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN).

  • Highly scalable to new pathways and clinical areas: HCA UK launched with 27 pathways and have continued to add new clinical teams since launch. Pathways can be added simply such that time available can be spent supporting teams’ use of the resulting insights.

“A fantastic help to PHIN and completely supports all of our collective obligations to the CMA, but most importantly, facilitating the BEST outcomes for patients nationwide.”

— Dr Ian Gargan, Chief Executive at The Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN)
